Understanding the JX configuration numbers
J1939 Network JX Configurations
Configuration 017 - SPN 245 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65248 is a read-only configuration, meaning users cannot adjust the odometer to align with the dashboard readings. In the event of an ECM replacement, this SPN may reset to 0. It is recommended to program the Life-to-date odometer back into the ECM whenever permitted by the engine manufacturer. If programming the ECM is not an option, the JX can be configured to 929, enabling the odometer on the JX to be set. However, please be aware that slight discrepancies may occur. It is advisable to utilize Configuration 017 unless there is a specific policy requirement to synchronize the JX with the dashboard display.
Configuration 929 - SPN 245 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65248 allows users to input an odometer value into the JX to align it with the dashboard readings. However, it is important to note that minor discrepancies between the dashboard and the JX may develop over time. To maintain accuracy, it is recommended to use the MR55 to re-calibrate the JX with the dashboard during each preventative maintenance (PM) cycle. Over extended distances, a drift of approximately 1% between the dashboard odometer and the JX may be observed. This discrepancy typically results in the JX odometer reflecting a higher value, which can be attributed to rounding and conversion factors.
Configuration 161 - SPN 245 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65248 allows users to input an odometer value into the JX to align it with the dashboard readings. However, it is important to note that minor discrepancies between the dashboard and the JX may develop over time. To maintain accuracy, it is recommended to use the MR55 to re-calibrate the JX with the dashboard during each preventative maintenance (PM) cycle. Does not report Engine Hours or Idle Hours
Configuration 673 - SPN 245 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65248 allows users to input an odometer value into the JX to align it with the dashboard readings. However, it is important to note that minor discrepancies between the dashboard and the JX may develop over time. To maintain accuracy, it is recommended to use the MR55 to re-calibrate the JX with the dashboard during each preventative maintenance (PM) cycle. Supports engine hours and idle hours but the update config byte never clears which can cause other buses to get set to 673 in rare instances.
Configuration 049 - SPN 917 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65217 represents a high-resolution alternative to SPN 245. This specific SPN is commonly utilized in BYD and Proterra electric buses, providing enhanced accuracy in tracking total vehicle distance. Read-only setting. user cannot program the odometer into the JX.
Configuration 2337 - exclusively used on Dayton's Gillig/Kiepe buses. The Miles Run Factor in Data Tools should be set to 0.2 to account for the dash odometer being 5 times higher than JX.
J1708 Network JX Configurations
Configuration 00 - PID 245 Total Vehicle Distance PGN 65248s a read-only configuration, meaning users cannot adjust the odometer to align with the dashboard readings. In the event of an ECM replacement, this PID may reset to 0. It is recommended to program the Life-to-date odometer back into the ECM whenever permitted by the engine manufacturer. If programming the ECM is not an option, the JX can be configured to 97, enabling the odometer on the JX to be set. However, please be aware that slight discrepancies may occur. It is advisable to utilize Configuration 00 unless there is a specific policy requirement to synchronize the JX with the dashboard display.
Miles Run Factor for Config 2338 Gillig Kiepe Only. Miles Run Factor should be 1.0 for all other buses.
