What's the difference between deleting a vehicle and marking it as Permanently Out of Service?

deleting or retiring a vehicle

When determining whether to delete a vehicle or designate it as Out of Service, several factors should be taken into account. For vehicles that have recently been retired, it is advisable to categorize them as Permanently Out of Service rather than deleting them from the system.

For vehicles that have been retired for seven years or more, deletion from the system is typically acceptable.

If you wish to reuse a bus number from a newly retired vehicle, be sure to change the vehicle number first; this will make the original number available for reuse. One example, if the bus number is 1234, change it to 991234 to free up 1234 again while maintaining the old bus' service history for reporting purposes.

In cases where a vehicle will be in the shop for an extended period, utilize the Vehicle In Shop flag to exclude it from reports during this time. The system will automatically remove this flag once the vehicle is refueled and returned to service.
